Solemn transfer of the Mobile Milk Analysis Center (MCAM)
On November 15, 2019 a ceremonial handover of the Mobile Milk Analysis Center (MCAM) took place at the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Balice.
It is a specialized laboratory vehicle adapted to perform advanced analyzes of milk and colostrum in field conditions, directly at the farm. The laboratory was created as part of the Bridge Alfa program financed by the National Center for Research and Development. The project was created as part of a consortium that is made up of the National Research Institute of Animal Production and Farm Innovations Sp. z o.
o. The main purpose of creating such a laboratory was to enable farmers to obtain detailed information on the quality of milk produced by cows. In current practice, the animal owner had to try to collect milk samples, transport them and send them to the laboratory, which often involved a long waiting time for results and often considerable costs. The MCAM car will be able to reach any farm in Poland after prior notification of such need on a specially developed website or by phone. The laboratory you eat is dedicated in particular to farms where dairy cattle are kept outside the control of dairy use maintained by breed societies and producing the product directed for direct sale or local dairies and collection centers. Such activities are to ensure product quality and food safety. The mobile laboratory has been equipped with specialized FOSS analytical devices (Milkoscan Mars 6) that allow rapid analysis of milk or colostrum in terms of basic ingredients (protein, fat, casein, dry matter, dry non-fat, freezing point) and screening for adulteration during minutes without the need for chemicals, as well as bacterial and somatic cell (BacSomatic) testing, to verify the hygienic quality of milk. The device allows precise measurement of the number of bacteria and somatic cells in less than 9.5 minutes and the same measurement of the number of somatic cells less than 1.5 minutes. In addition, the laboratory has the ability to perform rapid tests to detect antibiotic residues in milk. The tests allow you to get a quick result of the analysis of raw, pasteurized, sterilized milk, milk powder and whey. The vehicle is equipped with its own power source, enabling continuous operation of the devices, it has been designed to work in all conditions, virtually anywhere in Poland. It is also planned to use MCAM to create a bovine colostrum management system as a way to improve production efficiency and quality of bovine colostrum and an additional source of benefits for farms. To this end, it is planned to build colostrum banks not only directly at breeders, but also at regional breeders' associations.
