History and modernity of the faculty of horticulture and landscape architecture

From the very beginning of the faculty's existence to the present time, research has been conducted in the field of horticulture. These studies have a General academic profile and are conducted in full-time (previously full-time) and part-time (previously part-time) forms. For a very long time they were implemented as two-stage studies, then from the 2001/2002 academic year as uniform master's studies, and from 2006/2007 they were implemented as two-stage studies. Currently, the field of horticulture of the first degree is implemented in four specialties: General gardening (since 1998/1999plant breeding and seed production (from 1997/1998), Landscaping of green spaces (from 1998/1999) And protection of horticultural plants. (from 2006/2007). On the stationary second cycle 2008/2009 graduates of all specialties of the first degree program can choose one of eight groups WE: Ornamental plants, garden equipment, gardening, nurseries and seed, plant protection, nutrition and plant biology, architecture, gardens and shaping and protection of the landscape, with correspondence training, you can choose one of two master's groups: decorative gardening and growing fruits and vegetables. Since 1997, second-cycle full-time English classes have been held in the field of horticulture, specializing in plant breeding, seed production and technology. To date, about 150 foreign students, mostly from the people's Republic of China, have completed their studies.

The University of natural Sciences in Poznan fully protects the didactic infrastructure in order to train students of the faculty of horticulture and landscape architecture. The infrastructure provides laboratory, greenhouse and demonstration classes at the faculty's own facilities (including the Experimental station in Marcelina together with the greenhouse complex, collections of decorative wood and herbaceous plants) and the University (Agricultural and fruit experimental farm in Przybrodz, Arboretum garden). Students study in 20 lecture halls and 38 gyms-seminar, laboratory, computer classes, Studio of painting, graphics and sculpture and city Studio. The Department also has its own library (a branch of the Main library) of didactic collections of ornamental plants - woody and herbaceous, as well as greenhouses and foil tunnels. Students also use modern equipment Of the center of physical culture. In addition, they can develop their scientific interests by participating in scientific associations.

In 2012, the section of landscape architecture was transformed into the scientific circle of landscape architecture. Members of the circle perform design work, take part in research camps, study trips, conferences, Polish and foreign design competitions, organize seminars, lectures, discussions and exhibitions. The circle cooperates with associations and local governments, carrying out various activities aimed at the formation and protection of the landscape.

The club of Botanical Sciences was founded in 2000 on the initiative of students of the faculties: horticulture, agriculture and animal husbandry and biology. The guardian of the Circle was Dr. Wojciech Antkowiak (until 2009), and then Dr. Aneta charna. From the very beginning, members of the Circle took an active part in popularizing the idea of nature protection through joint organization and participation in inter-University summer scientific camps, which, among other things, are aimed at creating nature trails and developing guides to these trails, which are a public form of Pro-environmental education.

The research activities carried out at the faculty of horticulture and landscape architecture, very extensive and described in detail in the description of the departments, refers to:

* development and improvement of methods for the production of vegetables and mushrooms of health value, taking into account biological progress and environmental protection,

* impact of agricultural operations and regulations on yield, fruit quality and storage capacity,

* reproduction, cultivation and use of ornamental plants grown under cover and in the ground,

* evaluation of raw materials for plant breeding, its methods, as well as production and improvement of seed quality,

* improvement of ecologically safe methods of soil and soil fertilization and nutrition of garden plants,

* epidemiology of plant diseases and cultivated fungi, as well as biology and diagnostics of pathogens,

* woody plants, their significance and impact on the environment, acclimatization, improvement of reproduction and cultivation methods and enrichment of the gene pool,

* physiology of plant responses to stressors and adverse environmental conditions,

* improvement and greening of urban areas,

* assessment and evaluation of the natural value and transformation of Polish ecosystems against the background of Europe, taking into account the biological, morphological and physico-chemical elements,

* biology, systematics and variability of individual plant taxa, with special consideration for rare and protected species, ecology of planktonic algae and assessment of biodiversity of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems at the floristic and phytocenotic levels of the landscape.

The staff of the faculty actively collaborate with national research centres - the Institute of horticulture in Skierniewice, Institute of dendrology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Kórnik, Institute of plant genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences in poznań, Institute of natural fibers and herbal plants in poznań, Institute of plant protection in Pozna, Institute of plant protection in Pozna. In Warsaw, The Institute of molecular physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan, the Central center for the study of varieties in Slupja Wielka, Poznan University of technology, University of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, University. Nicholas Copernicus in Torun, the University of Zielona Hur, the Medical Academy in Lublin, and others. the Result of this collaboration is numerous publications, grants, implementations, and co-organized conferences.
